THE DAWN OF DAYBREAK
Written, directed and edited by Alvaro D.Ruiz, Amanecer (Daybreak) follows the story of a young South American immigrant who struggles to build a new life for his wife and children in Australia. In the foreign land previous education and experience don’t seem to count. Dreams therefore turn to lies. Lies become reality.
The 14 minutes long drama was one of four projects competitively selected for the 2008 Multicultural Mentorship Scheme, a MetroScreen and NSWFTO joint initiative.
It was shot in November 2008 with 6 other SFS graduates in crew roles – Ross Giardina as DOP, ‘Marshmallow* Productions’ Ulysses Oliver as Co-Producer, Caite Adamek as Production Manager, Brian Lien on Continuity, Will Walquist as Focus Puller and Matt Roberts as Gaffer.
Beside SFS graduates the team behind Amanecer includes ‘Luneta Productions’ Luci Temple as Producer, long time SFS collaborator Patrick Nellestein as Sound Designer & Composer and well-known Australian actress/producer Claudia Karvan (Secret Life Of Us, Love My Way) as Project Mentor.
The two lead roles are played by Matias Stevens (Juan) and Jessica Chapnik (Andrea).
The private crew, cast and friends screening of the film, before it goes out to festivals, will be held on Thursday April 2 at the Chauvel Cinema in Paddington.
Public screenings will follow shortly so watch this space for further announcements.
