EULOGY FINALIST OF GSTAAD
The seven minutes long Eulogy, a thesis film directed by Ben Claremont in the second part of his SFS studies, is one of only five finalists of the Gstaad Film Festival Switzerland. An experimental short film shot in super slow motion, where an old man runs through a flock of pigeons, tells a whole life's story in just a few seconds, with the beautiful photography as its main feature.
The 4. International Short Film Festival for Artist Films, Gstaad Film Festival will be held on 12th and 13th March 2010.
For the fourth edition of GstaadFilm, 150 films of 23 countries were submitted. Films eligible for admission were short films with a maximum running time of 10 minutes. Empowered to participate were artists who work or are skilled in the techniques of any of the fine arts, i.e. painting, sculpture, dance, theatre, performance, photography and who, through utilisation of the above background, create a work/s through the visual medium of film.
Out of 150 submissions the jury has selected 21 of them and put together an interesting international program with films coming from Great Britain, Germany, Iran, Spain, Finland, Israel, Canada, Czech Republic and Australia.
The following five films have been nominated for the «Golden Cow of Gstaad»: Eulogy (Ben Claremont, Australia), Prediger (Jochen Kuhn, Germany), Human Beings (Mashaallah Mohammadi, Iran), Yellow Exercise (Shelly Nashadi, GB) & Yarning for Love (Masahiro Sugano, USA).
The program will be shown in the Cine Theatre Gstaad where the artists will have the possibility to present their work to the public in person. The authors of the five nominated films are invited to Gstaad for the festival-weekend with the flight ticket paid by the festival.
At the end of 2009, "Eulogy" screened at the 7th Tirana International Film Festival in Albania where it was runner up for Best Experimental Film, and received special mention at the awards night. The festival was held over 10 days from November 27 to December 6 with the gala awards show in the capital city's national theater.
This was the first year that TIFF expanded into a features competition after its previous shorts only competition. Over 700 movies from 80 different countries of the world applied in this edition of the festival. All the daily programs of the TIFF festival combined features and short films in all formats and genres - fiction, documentary, animation and experimental.
Open to any filmmaker from around the world, TIFF showcased new cinematic work by established directors with international reputations (the competing shorts and features that filled the day-long programs have been featured in numerous festivals including Sundance, Berlin, Cannes and Locarno), as well as work by talented students and young artists. Above all, it is the aim of the TIRANA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL to create a meeting point for film artists and cinema enthusiasts from Albania, the Balkans and the entire world to come together and share their linked passion and knowledge of the motion picture art form.
