> Course Description

This course is designed to build sustainable creative teams of filmmakers, arming them with the creative, technical and business skills required to make a mark in the worldwide film industry.

It will arm filmmakers with both theoretical and technical specialist skills in the fields of writing, directing, producing, cinematography, design, editing and sound.

Students enrol into a production team of up to thirteen students, with each student undertaking specialised crew roles across a range of 10-15 minute thesis film projects. Every student has the opportunity to write and direct as well as undertaking a specialisation in one other skill area.

As a production team, students will research current industry developments, explore business opportunities, and develop a business and marketing plan for the establishment of a sustainable production company.

Industry research entails students consulting with producers, government funding bodies, craft guilds, festivals, distributors, sales agents, exhibitors and critics.

The course offers writing students a unique opportunity to develop a full-length feature film that will form the backbone of the Feature Film Development class. The writing student will write the script under the guidance of an industry mentor.

Throughout the course of the year the team will develop a positioning strategy for the feature film, a finance plan , a budget, and pitching and supporting materials, ready for the production company to take to market at the year’s end.
